Welcome to the Chaos – A Day in My Life as a Corporate Mom
Some people ease into a new month with fresh intentions and a neatly organized planner. I, however, dive headfirst into April with fiscal year-end craziness at work, spring hockey starting, camp registration sign-ups, gymnastics practice , and family events colliding into one giant whirlwind of obligations. Not to mention, we’re running on an empty fridge thanks to an ice storm that hit this past weekend. And because I love a good challenge, I also squeezed in a 10K bike ride—because why not add one more thing to the list?
The Morning Hustle: Coffee, Calendars, and Chaos
My alarm goes off before the sun even considers making an appearance. First order of business: coffee. Second: sorting through my inbox, which looks like it exploded overnight with approvals, last-minute requests, and those delightful “circling back” emails that never seem to go away.
Somewhere between conference calls and spreadsheets, I’m also coordinating summer sports schedules. Hockey camps, gymnastics training, and somehow fitting in family events—all while trying to remember if I actually ate breakfast. (Spoiler: I didn’t.)
Midday Mayhem: Work, Mom Taxi, and Multitasking Like a Pro
By noon, I’ve juggled more meetings than should be possible, knocked out some deliverables, and attempted to schedule some family gatherings that don’t conflict with a hockey tournament or a gymnastics meet. Spoiler: It’s impossible. The only available date falls on a weekday, which means we’ll be celebrating in between homework, practices, and whatever other chaos unfolds.
At some point, I realize that I need to log off for a bit to get the kids where they need to go. One practice ends, another begins, and I’m officially in chauffeur mode. I respond to work emails in the car (safely parked, of course) and mentally plan dinner, which is most likely going to be something thrown together in 10 minutes or less—if we can find anything left in the fridge.
Evening Madness: The Race Against Time
Evenings are a blur of quick meals, homework, and trying to squeeze in my own workout. Tonight, that means hopping on my bike for a 10K ride—because if I don’t carve out the time, it just won’t happen. Between adjusting gears and dodging rogue toys, I remind myself that movement is still movement, even if it’s chaotic.
By the time I finally collapse onto the couch, I realize the day was a success—not because it was smooth, but because everyone made it where they needed to be, work got done, and we survived another round of “Mom, where’s my (insert lost item here)?”
Embracing the Beautiful Chaos
Some days, it feels like too much. Some days, I wonder if I should be doing less. But then I remember—this season of life is messy, unpredictable, and exhausting, but it’s also full of moments I wouldn’t trade for anything.
So, to all the moms out there managing careers, kids, sports, and everything in between—cheers to you. We may not have it all figured out, but we’re making it work, one crazy day at a time.
